About Me

Marlene Lilla Fairbrother

Painting is a form of expression. There are no boundaries in painting. I’m a dreamer. I think in color and light and tones. My thoughts are images and faces and ideas running around in my head, begging to be painted.

Many times I think of myself as a photorealist. Photorealism is the genre of painting based on making a painting from the use of a photograph or several photographs.

My work is greatly influenced by the traditionalist painter, William-Adolphe Bouguereau. I admire his use of pencil studies and oil sketches, and his careful methods which resulted in an accurate rendition of the human form. This can be seen in his goddesses, nymphs, and madonnas.

Bouguereau described his love of his art, “Each day I go to my studio full of joy; in the evening when obliged to stop because of darkness I can scarcely wait for the next morning to come…if I cannot give myself to my dear painting I am miserable.” I can’t agree with him more.
